  • Floristics - The Art of Arranging Flowers

    Classes include 340 hours, including 140 hours of practical classes and 100 hours of theoretical classes, 100 hours of professional practice (florist or florist company). During theoretical classes, the principles of interior composition and decoration, the physiological basis of flowering and aging of flowers, plants used in floristry, accounting and running a business are discussed. The practical part covers all issues related to the design and creation of plant compositions, from occasional bouquets through large forms, wedding bouquets to compositions in a vessel. There are also Christmas and mourning arrangements with the use of potted plants. Classes are held during ten sessions (Friday – Sunday) – once a month.

  • Plants and plant materials for health - quality and use

    The study program includes the subject of the course in herbal commodity science required to obtain the qualifications necessary to run herbal and medical stores, in accordance with the regulation of the Minister of Health of February 2, 2009. Classes of the 10th edition of these studies will be held from October 2020 to June 2021, in a series of 12 Saturday-Sunday meetings. Candidates should have a university degree (bachelor’s, engineer or master’s degree) in any field. The studies are aimed at people who want to deepen their knowledge of topics related to the use of medicinal plants and high biological activity in health prophylaxis and with the assessment of their quality and marketing technology. The studies may be of interest to people who want to set up a company dealing in the production, storage, trading and processing of plant raw materials, the so-called healthy food. The subject matter of the studies may also be of interest to people with a hobbyist attitude, who want to broaden their knowledge about interesting plant species, healthy eating habits, food ingredients positively influencing the human condition and well-being. The study program includes, among others the following issues: commodity science of pro-health and medicinal plants with elements of biology and cultivation methods, methods of storing, packing and preserving plant raw materials, basics of dietetics and dietary supplementation, methods of assessing the quality of plant raw materials, plant aromatherapy, characterization of plant medicines and marketing rules, pharmacognosy, elements of pharmacology , human anatomy and physiology; and food safety issues. Classes will be conducted by specialists from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and the Medical University of Warsaw. Practical classes will be conducted in laboratories of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and in the field, including a herbal company in Podlasie.

  • Arrangement of Plants in the Usable Space

    The study program meets new trends in improving the quality of life through contact with plants and is intended to provide students with the knowledge of the current range of ornamental plants and new perspectives for their application. The aim of the studies is to develop the students’ creativity and teach the use of plants as a plastic material. Classes include 280 hours of classes – 90 hours of lectures, 90 hours of practice and 100 hours of practical classes. During theoretical classes, students will learn about plant material and the principles of interior decoration, creating plant compositions (from potted, cut and permanent plants) and planting seasonal flower beds, beds and various types of containers with the use of seasonal plants, perennials and ornamental trees and shrubs. As part of the exercises, students make design assumptions for seasonal flower beds and perennial beds, as well as interior decorations; they visit plant sales points, plant nurseries and educational collections.

    A student of postgraduate studies “Arrangement of plants in usable space” is directed to apprenticeships in the field of plant science in the amount of 100 hours. The place of the internship is chosen by the student. During the internship, the student should become familiar with the principles of operation of a gardening company, plant material and its production, its use for interior and garden arrangement. The prerequisite for completing the internship is the achievement of the assumed learning outcomes and a certificate of internship with a description of the work performed and working hours issued by a selected gardening company. Thanks to the acquired knowledge, the student has the opportunity to apply for a job in a company dealing with the use of plants in interiors, gardens and public places, and to provide professional gardening advice. News in the field of nursery industry gives you the opportunity to apply for a job in a nursery, a company establishing or maintaining green areas or in institutions dealing with the promotion and dissemination of knowledge

    on the importance and application of plants.

    Description of the group of people / recipients to whom the postgraduate studies are dedicated:

    The studies are intended for graduates of various fields of study, interested in the use of ornamental plants both in private space (apartment, home garden) and in public space (workplace, office buildings, green areas) due to their aesthetic values and health-promoting effect to improve quality life.

    Required prior qualifications:

    Students of postgraduate studies may be persons with a diploma of completion of at least the first degree.

    Conditions and recruitment procedure for given postgraduate studies:

    Recruitment of candidates for studies is open and begins 3 months before the planned start of the next edition of studies. Recruitment takes place on a first-come-first-served basis and submits the required documents:

    1. application for admission to postgraduate studies,
    2. personal questionnaire,
    3. a copy or a copy of the diploma of completion of studies entitling to undertake postgraduate studies, certified by the university. In the case of graduating from university abroad, the candidate submits the original of the diploma and its translation into Polish, certified by authorized institutions, as well as a document confirming the recognition of the diploma or a certificate of exemption from the recognition procedure,
    4. proof of payment for postgraduate studies.

    Admission to postgraduate studies takes place after meeting the enrollment requirements and making a payment for the 1st semester of studies or for the whole course and sending the confirmation of the fee to the Head of Studies at least 7 days before the beginning of the semester in which the classes begin. At a justified request of a postgraduate student, submitted before the required payment date, the Dean may postpone the payment date or divide the payment into installments.

    The procedure and conditions for completing postgraduate studies (on the terms set out in the Regulations for Postgraduate Studies at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences):

    1. Completion of all the subjects indicated in the study program;
    2. Passing the final written examination (test form);
    3. Timely submission and defense of the diploma thesis (after passing the final exam) – development of assumptions for the design of the selected planting (to choose from: residential or office interior, home garden in a given style).

    Detailed rules for the preparation and submission of the diploma thesis and the defense of the project:

    1. The diploma thesis and the diploma project are carried out by a student under the supervision of the Head of Studies, after consultation with selected teachers conducting major subjects.
    2. Topics of diploma theses and diploma projects are approved by the Head of Studies on the basis of the opinions of selected teachers conducting major subjects.
    3. The student should choose the topic of the diploma thesis and the diploma project not later than one semester before the planned date of graduation.
    4. The diploma dissertation consists of a descriptive part and a diploma project presented to the Board appointed by the Dean of the Faculty at the request of the Head of Studies.
    5. The final grade for the studies is the arithmetic mean of the grades: obtained from the final exam (test) and given by the Commission for the presented project, both grades must be positive. The grade for the diploma thesis is given with an accuracy of two decimal places, in accordance with the rules of mathematical rounding.
